War can test people in all sorts of ways.  It tests resolve, ability to endure, and it can test faith.  The test results aren’t always negative either.  Allysa Adams introduces us to one soldier just back from Iraq who says war renewed his faith in God.

SCRIPT:

Natsound: “I don’t like these 21s, I don’t like the way they’re designed or anything.”

Nastound / Sgt. Justin Price, U.S. Military: “Yeah, there’s still the sand on a lot of it. It’s all that gritty dust.”

Sgt. Justin Price may never get rid of the remnants of the Iraqi desert.

Sgt. Justin Price, U.S. Military: “It busts down into the consistency of flour and it’s just everywhere.”

Just back from a year in Irag with the 1404th transportation company, he brought back more than sand, photographs and home videos.

Sgt. Justin Price, U.S. Military: “My faith increased in Iraq so much because I know God is real.”

War tested Sgt. Price in ways he never expected.

Sgt. Justin Price, U.S. Military: “We occupied the whole country and the bad guys were everywhere.”

Price saw death and faced death. It’s the kind of daily stress that really changes soldiers … and not always for the better.

Sgt. Justin Price, U.S. Military: “This is an M2 50 caliber machine gun.”

In order to survive Iraq, Sgt. Price knew he had to have faith – not only in his fellow soldiers, but also in God.

Sgt. Justin Price, U.S. Military: “Most Christians at some point in time challenge God.  ‘God, if you’re there give me a sign,’ and I did that.”

Over the next few days he received stacks of letters from friends in his United Methodist church.

Sgt. Justin Price, U.S. Military: “Wow – I think I got my sign. I know I did.  So many things happened to us, even to me, and I was like ‘Wow, God does care about me and I’m home for a reason.’”

And now that’s he’s home safe with his wife and 2-year-old son, the lessons of war stay with him every day.

Sgt. Justin Price, U.S. Military: “I have that fire in me now. There’s that understanding that God is real that I think so many Christians waiver on.”

TAG:

Sgt. Price says war made him look at death in a different light as well. He says when you sign up for the military you understand you must be willing to die for your country.  But after what he experienced in Iraq he says his preparedness for death took on a more spiritual tone.  He says he was willing to fulfill his purpose whatever God deemed that to be.
