Darlene Patrick, Sardis United Methodist Church: “Everybody wash
your hands…”
In a world of fast food and instant everything, cooking is becoming
a lost art.
Darlene in kitchen with kids: “Let me show you how to stir…”
Darlene Patrick: “They don’t know what it takes to put a meal
together.”
To teach children basic kitchen skills, Sardis United Methodist
Church has found the perfect recipe.
Little boy: “How much sugar?”
A hands-on ministry, the kids eat it up.
Darlene Patrick: “They learn to mix the ingredients together. They
learn how to set the table. And they want to help.”
Little girl: “I did good.” Darlene: “Great job!”
Once a month, these novice chefs come together like a family to
create a kid-friendly meal. Fresh fruit, spicy tacos- and did someone
say “dessert”?
Little boy: “Smells good!”
Made from scratch, this apricot cake will become more than a treat.
John Westmoreland (11-year-old): “ It’s going to the nursing home
for people who wish they could still run and play and be out in the
good world.”
Darlene prays with kids “Our heavenly father…”
Rev. Jim Cox, Sardis United Methodist Church: “They learn that
everything we have is a gift from God and these gifts should be
shared.”
Nursing home resident with cake: “This one’s even warm!”
If there’s love in cooking…
Elderly church member: “Thank you!”
…these children are nourishing their souls.
Mary Patrick: “It teaches me about God and inspires me to help
other people out.”
