SCRIPT: (Locator: Radnor Township, PA) The Rev. Charlene Gaspar/Postcard collector: “Some of these cards go back, this is 1907.” Charlene Gaspar began collecting postcards when she was 11 years old… The Rev. Charlene Gaspar/Postcard collector: “I started with 5, 10, 20…” 30-40…thousand now, perhaps???
And, when is enough - enough? The Rev. Charlene Gaspar/Postcard collector: “I’ve just done it on the side, collecting here, collecting there. It’s been since I’ve been on eBay that I’ve had a problem with over-collecting.” Now her hobby has become a fund-raising mission. She is actually The Reverend Charlene Gaspar… long known on eBay as the “Postcard Pastor.” She is donating all proceeds from her sales to the United Methodist Committee on Relief for the benefit of tsunami survivors. Because, when IS enough- enough? The Rev. Charlene Gaspar/Postcard collector: “Not a day goes by that we couldn’t all do with less so we could give more to somebody else.” (Nat: TV news report) Charlene watches the news with a heavy heart, and a sense that it’s a small world. Her husband is from the Philippines. One daughter lives in Spain, another is in Russia. The Rev. Charlene Gaspar/Postcard collector: “I’ve always been more global than I am local.” Certainly her collection spans the globe… The Rev. Charlene Gaspar/Postcard collector: “This is from Sri Lanka. It’s really hard to think about posting cards of places that no longer exist…and the people that once were there.” So many postcards, needed to add up to anything… The Rev. Charlene Gaspar/Postcard collector: “In a given month, I might go from 2-500 dollars on eBay.” Because, you see, she still doesn’t have enough after all. The Rev. Charlene Gaspar/Postcard collector: “Just a simple collector that loves to share my collection and add to it at the same time, then I could do this forever - because the needs are forever.” TAG: The postcard pastor is inviting anyone who wants to join in to send her interesting post cards they may have to donate, and she'll run them with all her other tsunami relief auctions. Contact her through the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, at http://www.epaumc.org/ or call 800-828-9093.
